The Kofi Annan-led mediation talks have reached a critical stage and President Kibaki and Mr Raila Odinga should now take their seats at the negotiation table instead of using proxies. It is clear that the negotiators cannot make a decision without consulting the two. For as long as their representatives do not have the mandate to make a decision, the negotiations will remain a mere sham.

Having eaten the goose that lays the golden egg, Kenya Football Federation officials are unable to pay a mere Sh455,000 participation fee to the continental body, CAF. Local clubs have been thrown out of the continental competitions as Tusker’s champions League tie against Eritrea’s Al Tahrir was called off at the eleventh hour on Saturday. One wonders what it will take to restore the glory of the local game.

It is good that religious leaders recently came out clearly to accept that they took sides during the General Election campaigns. We Kenyans, feels that their apology fell short of expectations. They should explain what made them forsake their duties. Those who ‘got something’ should declare it and surrender it to charity.

It seems it is so easy to appease Njuri Ncheke(The Meru Elders). One of their elders was recently allegedly assaulted and all they are demanding is a he-goat and an apology. Being the tough men they are usually and the personalities involved, it would have expected that they demand a live lion, elephant milk and crocodile tears.

US president, Mr George Bush, must really be an embarrassed man every time he is forced to comment on flawed elections in other countries. Apart from losing the popular vote in the 2000 elections, there is still controversy on who between him and Al Gore won Florida’s 25 electoral votes. And Florida is not just another state!
