A Canadian oil firm in Garissa County has suspended all its activities
following a disagreement with the locals. According to Francis Karanja,
one of Vanoil's directors, the company planned to start the drilling of
the first of its two wells in Madogashe-1 on the South Anza basin at a
cost of 2.2 million. He however accused residents of the county of
putting up unnecessary barriers to the exploration activities.
