Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta Wednesday donated 10 bulls to the Muslim community in the country as they celebrate Eid-Al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice. The Feast of Sacrifice marks the end of hajj, an annual pilgrimage undertaken by Muslims in the holy city of Mecca.
Speaking at State House Nairobi, the President said Kenya was a multi-religious society that tolerates ethnic diversity for prosperity.
“As Christians and friends we express our solidarity and goodwill with our Muslim brothers and sisters as they celebrate the Feast of Sacrifice, a key pillar in their faith,” he said.
President Kenyatta asked Kenyans of all faith to work together with the Government in identifying people bent on causing division, hatred and despondency in the country. He said the few evil-minded characters who are a threat to peace and security in the country will not be tolerated.
“Extremists are a small group that does not represent anybody. Let us avoid extremism as it’s not among the basic principles of our religious beliefs,” the President said.
The religious leaders, led by Mining Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, thanked the President for the donation to the poor. The leaders assured the President that the Muslim community will work with the Government on all matters of national importance. Balala said Muslim leaders have constituted a focus team that will maintain contact with Government agencies on security related matters.
