SIASA ZA KENYA.................................................Remember this is an election year

Fresh from the bruising by his MPs who deserted him and his party after cheering him on for several years, Local Authorities Minister Mr Musikari Kombo of Ford-Kenya wasn’t in a mood to pander to sycophantic platitudes. So when Mombasa Mayor Mr Ali Shekue referred to him as the "new president this year" Kombo was rattled; He reprimanded Shekue on the spot. Kombo was either not in a mood to take a joke or he was uncomfortable now that the man who occupies the house on the hill was in the neighbourhood.

The ongoing Prison reforms have emboldened prisoners to demand their rights.
They know that MPs and ministers got a pay rise and are asking that their measly 10 cents-a-day allowance be increased. Palaver’s bean counters say the prisoners’ allowance translates to Sh3 a month and Sh36 in a year. So it is only those lucky enough to serve a jail term of 1,000 years that would walk away with Sh36,000 to start a small business.

The fire-spitting Assistant Minister Mr Danson Mungatana has lately been sulking about something that is not yet very clear. He has kept off Narc-Kenya functions and has not been taking on Government critics with the enthusiasm of a crocodile eater. Luckily his boss is not an overbearing parent like the former tenants at State House who never took political sulking lightly; He wouldn’t have known what hit him.

And when his wife comes out to issue an ultimatum asking him to declare his stand on the relationship, you know it is an empty threat. What was that about a Democratic Party of Kenya official asking President Kibaki to declare his stand on what party he is in?

And finally …
In the incursion into Somalia, Ethiopian premier Meles Zenawi has earned him support from very unlikely quarters. Given the opportunity, the miraa growers of Tharaka and its traders in Eastleigh would vote for Zenawi to the last man now that the stimulant is legal again in Somalia
